Vienna Open-source Project Offers Icon-based Communication For Refugees

This design studio for visual and spatial communication from Vienna created a First Aid Kit specially developed for refugees in Europe, which you can download and use immediately. They also added pictograms for basic communication in refugeeshelters.


As far as I am concerned the developement is on hold for now, but the project so far has been a great success with a lot of places using it.
The idea originated when Erwin Bauer, head of the design studio buero bauer, talked to the Austrian Red cross and was told that structured information and dialog was a huge problem, especially when there were no translators around.
